Jabbouleh
The project is intended to start the development of a value-added agroforestry project on a 30-hectare land belonging to the Wakf of the Greek Melkite diocese of Baalbeck – Al Hermel, by planting 4.4 hectares with 2550 almond trees, with a green cover made of wheat, oat, barley and vicia, and surrounded by a natural fence of 450 jujube trees. Every part of the harvested almond and jujube fruits can be commercially used, with a market that is growing worldwide at a fast pace with significantly increasing prices year on year. Hence, the project empowers the local community and improve their livelihood.
In other hands, this agroforestry pilot project in the region will help the neighboring farmers to learn and adopt new extensive practices that help them reduce water and fuel costs, improve their soils (in terms of fertility and humidity), hence increase their profits year after year.
This project was funded by CME Offshore s.a.l. & SIREN associates and analytics.
